MW Preparation Courses

With over 20 years of teaching experience and substantial experience on both sides of the MW, I have put together a series of unique courses to support MW student learning. These are not your regular tasting or theory courses. We take a deep dive into how to read a question, think like an examiner, and build a plan for success on your upcoming exams. All the courses have a start date, include many hours of tuition and provide detailed feedback. Below are full details of all the courses I have to offer. Feel free to reach out with any questions you might have.

Method 101

I built this course in early 2026, originally focusing on the practical. Since then, I have been working on making it even better, and am now launching two new variations: one with a focus on theory and another covering everything Stage 1. These are not just typical tasting or theory writing courses; these are four-week progressive courses that build a system to tackle the practical and theory with success. Each Method 101 course is four 90-minute sessions, meaning you have six hours of contact time. Along the way, there are assignments, feedback and, of course, an opportunity to ask any questions you might have. Limited spaces mean that you are always heard.

Each course is structured into four weeks covering: fundamentals of theory or practical, sounding confident, thinking like an examiner and building a plan for success.

The Rooms

These are less structured weekly sessions that explore certain parts of the tasting or theory exam. They are ideal for all students who want to practise writing and get detailed feedback on their work. Space is limited per session, so everyone has the chance to join in. They are six one-hour sessions over six weeks, done online, that cover a full range of topics.

Tasting Room

You are provided with a wine list and a set of questions. We then use this list and these questions to review key aspects of all seven major practical question types, and how to answer them. You submit your work in advance, so that I am able to customise the content of each week.

Wines not included.

Essay Room

Each week we explore a different paper and look at how best to approach it. Students submit essays and some shorter written assignments throughout the six weeks, so that we are able to focus on key aspects. In this course, we look at how to improve your writing to match the examiners' expectations.

In-person Intensives

This is the chance to work on the practical papers in small groups of up to 12 students and with 18 wines a day. This is not your usual boot camp! The morning is about technique, with exercises on six wines covering how you taste, how you read the question and how you plan your answer. In the afternoon, you sit a full 12-wine paper under exam conditions. We go through this together in depth, not guessing what the wines could have been, but really analysing the answers you have written, and what you could do to improve the points on the page. The Stage 2 In-person Intensive runs over two days, covering all three papers. Wines are included.

Stage 1 In-person Intensive: one day. £295
Stage 2 In-person Intensive: two days. £650
