Frequently Asked Questions.

Booking and cancelling

What happens if I need to cancel or move a session?
Can I pay in a currency other than pounds?

Yes. The checkout shows the price in your own currency.

Group courses and tasting

What time zone are sessions in?

Session times are in UK time unless otherwise stated.

Do I need to buy wines for tasting sessions? Which ones?

For the Tasting Room, yes. You buy the wines on the list yourself, and the list is sent well in advance of the first session. You don't need wines for Method 101, and wines for the In-person Intensives are included.

Are sessions recorded?

Group sessions are recorded, and you have access to the recordings for six months. One-to-one sessions are not recorded.

What happens if a group doesn't fill?

Method 101 groups, the Tasting Room and the Essay Room need at least three students to run, and the In-person Intensives need at least seven. If a group doesn't run, you get either a full refund or a place on the next group, whichever you prefer.

Marking and one-to-one

How do I send you my answers for marking?

By email, as a Word or PDF file.

Do you mark to the IMW standard, and will you give me a mark?

In Marking and Feedback, yes. Your answers are marked to the IMW standard and you get a mark. In Method 101 and the Rooms, you get feedback and an indicative mark.

How do I book the one-to-one session that comes with Marking and Feedback or the Room add-on?

Your report arrives by email with a link to book the session at a time that suits you.

What is the difference between 60-Minute Coaching and a bundle of one-to-one courses?

60-Minute Coaching is a single online session on whatever you need. A bundle of one-to-one courses is four sessions built around your goals, each picking up from the last, used within 12 weeks.

About me and the IMW

Can you help with the research paper?

No. I work with Stage 1 and Stage 2 students only.

Are you connected to the Institute of Masters of Wine?

At IMW seminars and course days, I have run sessions, given feedback and led tastings. I also advise students on the IMW study programme, sit on the IMW Study Programme Committee, and will manage the Stage 1 Rust seminar from 2028. My courses are independent of the Institute, and my marks are my own assessment, not official IMW marks.
